Lake Clearwater, One of the best sailing places in New Zealand. Has great Speed and salom conditions as well as bump and jump conditions when the wind picks up. You can camp beside the lake and duing the summer months with a very good chance of a sail every day. Only an hour and a half fron Christchurch ideal for a day or weekend trip.

The Tale
In 1995 I was visiting friends in San Fransisco .I was lent a salom board and a 5.5 race sail. I was having a ball cruising all around the bay under the Golden Gate bridge etc. next minuite there was a loud crack and I was in the water half way across the harbour.My masdt had snapped. A sailer stopped helped me roll up my gear and started to tow me in. It was a long slow process but we were making some progress.
Then a small coast guard boat hailed me and asked is I wanted a lift. Of course I answered yes. They asked me where I was from .I replied New Zealand ! They laughed and said we are going to go over and take the Americas cup off you. I replied You can have it if you get me back to shore.!!!
