Past Sunday I sailed my new '11 SL58 in decent conditions for the first time.
I used a Maui Sails TR-6 7.0 and Tectonics Falcon 36 (same as I used to do with my '10 SL58 in similar conditions).
The changes are, obviously, just the same as for the SL66: the board rides flat and stable, with minimal pitch, it's easy to have quick accellerations thanks to the ease with which one finds the right trim, feels easier than before and beautifully hadles chop at high speed. Only, for some reason the fin felt "smaller" than on the '10 model, so probably my other 36 (a more powerful 38 9.0% Talon) will find its use.
Also have to say, the board feels a bit "smaller", too; probably due to the shorter outline. 7.0 is really OK with it, but I guess 6.6 and 6.3 are even better.

A short video of my 3 year old SL58 taken from a helicopter at Cervantes Western Australia, the sail is a no cam Loft O2.

Hi Alex, 32 knots 2sec, my 7M race sail tore while rigging so I only had a 5.9 no cam to use so happy with that, great board. Cheers Bob.

Merry Christmas and best wises for all of you in this forum ..,

As I am goanna use the board as a speed board with a 7m2 and 6,3 m2 TR6 sail I try to find the best fins that excel in speed for this combo.
Any suggestion ........

Hi Alex,

I use my SL58 (2008) as much as possible, including our local "speed strip". My best speed so far has been with a Select S05 35cm, which is probably too big for a smooth speed strip, but it's what I'm used to...

The gear is very similar to what you're using: 6.8m sail & 35 cm fin and should be good for over 35 knots in the right hands

The best I have done is just over 37 knots on my GPS using a 30cm Venom and a 5.9 Loft O2, the same fin and sail as in my helicopter video above. The Loft O2 is a no cam sail so I think in the right conditions the SL58 is good for over 40 knots.

My SL58 is just over 3 years old, my new SL58 is on the way :p
