Hi Tom:

The pro models have a higher carbon content (i.e. the bottom shape) and a special Teflon™-like polished bottom. Their weight is the same as the standard boards, but the added carbon creates a stiffer, more responsive board.

Cheers,

Christophe

Ps: I haven't actually sailed a pro model yet, but my 'standard' boards are already stiff and responsive so I can only imagine what the pro models must be like...

The pro models have more carbon so they are stiffer, have a polished bottom and are also lighter. The SL70 is approximately 300 gms lighter than the standard model.

Not sure I get the Pro construction. I assumed that the Carbon Art SL were 100% carbon (as it is indeed clearly stated at http://carbonartwindsurf.com/Performance/Design ) ... so how can the Pro have more carbon? Does it has additional layers? So it is stiffer? (but then, how can the 70 supposedly be 300 grams lighter? if anything it should be heavier by some)

Hi there,

As I understood, there different quality of carbon and the better one is also mor expensive. Basically, the standard construction is top quality and the pro is above...

Hi Vincent,

that is a very vague reply (more expensive 12K carbon?!? what's that?) and I am getting the feeling that nobody really knows what this pro option is about.

But I have a suggestion. Instead, or in addition, of a pro option why not offer a STRONG option? Same price, or maybe $100 more, but with an additional layer of carbon or kevlar on nose and deck rails to make the board more resistant to dings, and more paint so that it does not scratch so easily?

Hi,

The Pro Model option has been upgraded for the 09/10, there is more Carbon and Kevlar, no glass is used in the construction at all, the result is a lighter and stiffer construction with no loss of strength, in fact the overall strength and life is improved, the polished bottom using a Teflon finish provides a permanent "dirt free" surface, we will have the actual weight differences online very soon .
The improvement to performance is noticeable.

Thanks for you patience.

James

When I bought my CAs SL last year I assumed, as did everybody else I am sure, that the boards were 100% carbon ,,, no glass. Or at least this was the impression given by the Web site and exchanged e-mails ...

Now it turns out that the standard version has glass and the new pro version is full-carbon and it is, supposedly, better? ... to avoid confusion I think that it would be a very nice idea to have a full description, on the web site, of the layering used by the boards, standard vs pro.

PS Great august sailing on my CAs!

Hi Davide,

Thank you for raising questions, James has since given an update to the material use on the design page and the terminology used, it was been updated as below - and we will be making other changes to the wording to make this point clear as to the differences in construction for the standard and pro models.

Cutting edge materials. Only the very best materials and components are used to make Carbon Art boards. For example, our Slalom board has a 100% carbon deck laminate as standard, and we use Gore-Tex™ vent plugs for all our boards, rather than the manual screw vents that other manufacturers use. The Gore-Tex™ vent plugs save you time and ensure that your board does not suffer from deformation through overheating.

Cheers,
Mike
