What is happening with freight to France ?
It's slow, slow for my SL70....
Why do the order form has changed (airport to airport ?) ?
For my next SL58, do you have any information about it ?
Happy new year to everybody.

Hi lulla,
my latest boards took about 2 weeks from pickup in NZ to clearing customs in Rome (December 3 to 17). Picked up in airport (the option was still available when I ordered). What about your shipping?

Hi G.E.O
1. My board was finished to build the 23 of december and was given to the freight agent (normaly DHL). We do not have piece of news anymore from them during 3 weeks. It is possible that the board is still in NZ.
James reassures me from time to time but he looks like of not to know more that I. I begin to be worried.
2. It is strange that in the new order form, the shipping is now in a single price. We had in 2009 the choice between airport to airport and airport to door with different prices.
Cheers

I thought 2 weeks was slow...
OK, you hit straight the gift shipping time. I also think that shipping is the biggest problem with Carbon Art, as obvious with any firm that ships his products direct instead of having a dealer; on the other hand, Carbon Art boards would probably cost more if distributed via a dealer. Anyhow, probably lots more can be done on this side: DHL in my view is not a good solution, and proved the slowest and most expensive so far (3 shippings, each one with a different freight agent). And yes, in my view the 'airport' option was the best one.
My best advice is: just relax and take it easy. It's still cold there, as it is here in Italy, isn't it? DHL may be slow and expensive, but is supposed to be reliable. Plus, a box such size is supposed not to get lost. Maybe James can find the tracking number, but isn't that useful if, as in my case, updates were slow.

This is equal to me to have my board later. What annoys me it is to have no timing from the carrier or Carbonart and not to know where is the board. Nobody knows if the board is way to be sent, in stand by or lost (I don't hope so)?
I hope to have some news very soon from the company.

Hi Lulla:
Obviously I don't know what went wrong with your shipment - if anything -, but I'm sure James will help you sort it out.
As far as the airport-to-airport is concerned, my understanding is that it didn't make much sense to keep it available, as the additional costs charged by the handler pushed the final price to the customer up the about the same level as the 'to-door' price, bar the service of having the board delivered to your door...
Keep the faith - and keep us posted.
cheers

Hi Chris,
agree that the freight dealer can charge costs over the 'airport' delivery that push final cost up to nearly same level with 'to the door' delivery; but things can go differently.
I received 3 shippings so far, all of them with the 'airport to airport' option. With my first shipping, I cleared customs by myself at no additional cost (only VAT and taxes). Second shipping was made through Accord International Freight LTD; a dealer cleared the customs for me at the cost of about 160 € (2 boards) (+ VAT and taxes). This last time it was DHL, and costed me about 300 € to clear customs (again, + VAT and taxes). In my view it's still a good deal to get such boards paying this price, but I think that others may have different thoughts, and among them some potential new customers.
What I would suggest is to make the 'airport' delivery available, but to arrange it so that the customer deals directly with the customs. This needs to be stated very clearly, as one should choose this option only if he is willing to do the job. Arranging shipping with a dealer that charges fair prices can be a good option. On the other hand, of course, having the 'airport' option becomes total nonsense if custom clearing cost push the total to the same level as with 'to the door' option.

Hi everybody
In my opinion, I think in France nobody is disturb to take the board in the airport. It is often more practical. You don't need an apointment with the carrier at home. Except money troubles, we reduce the handling and the risk of damages. Indeed the parcel need to go back by a new sorting office. We are already very happy when the board arrives without problem.
Otherwise, thanks to James. My board should be in the plane.

Hi Lulla - good to hear your board is underway. Don't worry, once you'll be on the water with your board you will forget all these setbacks. The SL70 is simply a fantastic board!
Have fun,
c

Hi, I could blame slow delivery's on a number of things, overbooked production, xmas, freight companies but at the end of the day it's our fault and I am sorry if we have been caused anyone problems with late delivery's, we are constantly trying to improve things but at the same time getting busier so it's a challenge!!
The reason we removed the airport option was we really have no control of what happens once the plane lands in your country of delivery, some people have been charged unexpected fee's which can come as a nasty surprise so we wanted to avoid this, another reason was sometimes it has ended up costing nearly as much to clear the board through customs as the door to door price and also taken time so in hindsight the door to door was a better option.

I had the confirmation of DHL that it is better to take the option door to door because customs are a mess. In a big international airport, you are lost in the middle of the freight zone. You have to pay often more taxes.
My board arrived without damages. Nevertheless I advise to take the board bag according to what I saw.
Otherwise thanks to James who was very efficient.
Cheers
